Swimming pools offer personal vacations for every stressor in life; whether your day has been tough or easy, taking a dip in the water can always provide relief from stress and heat. As well as helping beat the heat and cool off quickly, pools offer physical fitness training and water therapy services as well as providing safe environments for balance training to reduce risks of falls – studies have even demonstrated that those who swim are at lower risk of falling than non-swimmers!
Sydney boasts some of the world’s most spectacular ocean pools and is an increasingly popular spot for swimmers to relax and refresh themselves. Many ocean pools provide access to people who would feel unsafe swimming at regular beaches, including elderly and disabled individuals. Winter swim clubs as well as fitness swimmers often utilize these calmer waters.
Ocean pools range from the Instagrammable Bondi Icebergs to hidden swimming holes in Sydney’s northern beaches. Coogee residents can visit Wylie’s Baths – established by long-distance and underwater swimmer Henry Alexander Wylie himself in 1907 – or head down the road to McIver’s Ladies Baths, Australia’s sole remaining female-only ocean pool.
City life offers an abundance of public swimming pools ranging from historic art deco pools to state-of-the-art facilities, heated indoor pools and even historic art deco pools that date back over 100 years – each is considered an integral part of its community.
Sidney boasts six outstanding aquatic centres located throughout its city limits that provide a refreshing respite from summer heat. Each offers an extensive array of amenities, programs and services designed to appeal to everyone – be it exercise or socialisation with family and friends.
Sidney offers many indoor swimming pools as an attractive respite from the hot summer heat. These facilities are managed by NSW Health Facilities Authority and feature lifts, ramps and changing rooms with wheelchair accessibility for optimal swimming fun!
WTI served as both design architect and lead consultant on a joint project between City of Sidney Outdoor Swimming Complex and Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool as well as water-based activities like water polo and diving. WTI not only completed the design and planning of its new facility, but also the feasibility study, site evaluation/selection, preliminary design work, cost estimates and cost-sharing arrangements for it. The project is scheduled to be finished by 2024. WTI was chosen through a competitive selection process to participate in this exciting project funded by both the Australian government and City of Sidney, and is excited to have been selected. We look forward to being part of it.
