The 2023 Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) aims to foster young people who demonstrate self-challenge and perseverance, through an internationally recognised programme. Comprised of three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold each featuring four sections comprising services, skills development, physical recreation and expedition activities – it is open to all teenagers aged 14-25 currently living or from Hong Kong.
Pakistani artist Sameen Agha was awarded first place at the 2024 Sovereign Asian Art Prize with her sculpture A Home is a Terrible Place to Love made out of red marble that depicts an dismantled house. Michelle Fung received an award for Red Bean Stalk while Filipino artist Demet also received one. This prestigious prize was handed out during a gala dinner held at Four Seasons Hotel in May.
Recognizing the significance of science in Greater Bay Area, an independent science and technology innovation prize has been unveiled to honor outstanding scientists whose achievements span China mainland, Hong Kong or Macao. Dubbed HK Alliance of Technology and Innovation Science Prize 2023 by its sponsors Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and funded through merit-based research awards like International Young Scientist Fellowship; its decision-making structure comprises Review Committee, Compliance Oversight Team and Secretariat.
The Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation Science Prize is governed by a Charter to promote scientific and standardized administration of the award. The Board of Alliance of Technology and Innovation oversees all aspects of governance and responsibility of HK Prize, such as selecting members for Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team membership as well as suggesting key research fields that may feature and setting nomination requirements for experts.
In 1997, in order to encourage Hong Kong people to engage in volunteering, both the government and business sectors established the HK Prize as an incentive. A total of HK$2 Million in cash prizes and goods valued at HK$5 Million annually will be given away each year; additionally training and professional development opportunities for volunteers are also provided through this prize program.
The Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation offers more than just the HK Prize – in addition to professional development workshops for NGOs to assist them with planning and executing volunteer activities, these workshops aim to enhance both quality and quantity volunteering programs while providing an opportunity for networking among NGOs.
HK Prize is designed to stimulate the economy by incentivizing individuals to spend more money on local products and services, promoting Hong Kong as an economic powerhouse and drawing tourists from South-East Asia. Furthermore, this competition gives young professionals an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their talents – ultimately leading to job creation and increased tourism spending within Hong Kong city limits.
