The HK Prize – Enlightening Future Lights

The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences announced this year the hk prize, an annual grand science event “enlightening future lights”. This initiative seeks to stimulate scientific research in Hong Kong while encouraging dialogue between China and the rest of the world. Winning entries were selected according to relevance, systematic use of collected materials, objectivity in analysis and inclusion of bibliographies/footnotes as criteria for selection.

The winners of the hk prize are recognized for their contributions to society – whether through selfless caregiving, charity work, community involvement or corporate social responsibility. It highlights those who personify Hong Kong’s true spirit with genuine caring attitudes, civic awareness and good will that inspires others.

This award, created to honour Professor George B. Endacott – former lecturer in the Department of History – aims to foster interest and establish Hong Kong history as an acceptable field of scholarship. It is open to scholars both focusing on contemporary or pre-modern histories.

This award recognizes scholars who have contributed significantly to the development and advancement of Hong Kong Studies through research and publications. This prize encourages studies that address Hong Kong’s many connections and significance within society both contemporary and historical, as well as expanding international networks of Hong Kong Studies.

In 2018, the Hong Kong Prize was presented to a variety of distinguished and innovative researchers. All were leaders in their fields who have contributed significantly to advancing social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences disciplines.

This week at the Hong Kong News Awards, The South China Morning Post took home 12 awards – including top honour for its investigation of unauthorised structures added to luxury properties. Kahon Chan from their City desk won an honour award for reporting on controversial Dubai prince plans to open business ventures here, while Sammy Heung earned second-place merit recognition with her report about key players in Hong Kong science scene.

The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences recently unveiled the winners of this year’s hk prize, an internationally acclaimed award honoring outstanding research across astronomy, life science/medicine/mathematics/psychology sciences. Projects selected by an independent panel were judged on excellence and significance and will be honored during a special ceremony held in November – more information about that can be found here.
