A domino is a rectangular block made of wood or other material with one or more sides marked with dots, usually in a line. Each dot is called a pip and its number determines its value in various games.
Dominos are beloved toys that appeal to both children and adults alike, whether used for simple games or more intricate artistic creations. Available in numerous colors and styles, dominoes can be carved, painted or etched for use as sculptures; many people also use them to make intricate patterns out of them – while artists use them to build 3-dimensional towers and pyramids!
In the past, dominoes were usually constructed out of natural materials like stone (such as marble, granite or soapstone) or other hardwoods like ebony. Furthermore, ivory with black or white pips (inlaid or painted) would also often feature prominently. More recently though, polymer materials like plastic have become popular because they are lighter, less costly and more durable than their predecessors.
To play dominoes, first set all tiles out in front of all players and draw from a stock, known as boneyard. When one player finishes drawing their set of seven tiles from boneyard and calls “domino,” all remaining players turn up their dominoes and count how many dots remain before turning them up and counting again; the winner is determined by having the lowest total.
Domino’s may be best known for pizza delivery services, but their offerings span multiple categories. Their food delivery service stands out among them all while their casual dining and fast-food businesses have also seen significant expansion. Domino’s also maintains an active technology sector presence by providing software analytics to restaurants and other businesses.
Domino’s Pizza first began as a local chain of 30 stores in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1960. By 1970, owner Dominick Monaghan desired change for the business and hired advertising consultant Roy Cohn to improve its image by increasing storefront ads and opening more hours; as well as creating a uniform appearance for its delivery boys wearing bags designed by Domino’s Pizza.
Domino’s offers more than pizza; their menu also includes appetizers, pastas and cakes, frozen foods and international expansion. In recent years they have expanded internationally into Canada, Australia, Japan China and Brazil with operations. Domino’s is known for its innovative use of technology; pioneering text message ordering as early as 2000 or voice command ordering during voice dictation for voice command ordering; more recently they created the Domino’s Pizza App, available on most smartphones and tablets worldwide for mobile device ordering.
