Summer in Hong Kong can be challenging. The intense heat and humidity make outdoor fun difficult to achieve; but there are ways you can still have an amazing time outdoors, like taking advantage of one of Hong Kong’s many swimming pools for cooling off while taking in breathtaking city views.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department oversees public swimming pools. As it operates independently from local councils, this government-backed body was established after dissolving Urban Councils and Regional Councils at the turn of this millennium; since then it has expanded its operations while taking on new responsibilities while setting aside considerable sums to build additional pools.
Some newer developments in Hong Kong feature their own pools. Ocean Shores features both an outdoor 50-meter pool and smaller indoor one, Park Island has two, The Belchers offers three, while some single-tower developments only have small outdoor pools – usually too small for lap swimming but great opportunities for kids to splash around with other children and make friends!
There are also some luxury hotel swimming pools with breathtaking city views that provide ideal settings for staycations or relaxing holidays, like Cordis Hong Kong’s Wellness Pool equipped with full audio systems and fibre optic underwater lights, heated for year-round cooling off!
JW Marriott’s outdoor swimming pool, situated right in Admiralty, provides an unrivalled view of Hong Kong cityscape. Be sure to stop by their Fish Bar and Pool Lounge after swimming for some refuelling or before your next session!
