Singapore Pools was established by the government on 23 May 1968 to combat illegal gambling activities and provide people with a safe, trusted betting platform. Today, this not-for-profit organisation stands as Singapore’s sole legal bookmaker/totalisator for association football (Singapore S), motor racing and 4D betting in Singapore; any surplus proceeds go directly into Tote Board’s charity-minded initiatives which improve lives in our community.
Singapore Sweep was introduced as a seven-digit sweepstake draw in 1969, followed by 4D in 1986 and Toto (a state lottery game first launched in 1968) three years later. Sports betting was then introduced by Singapore Sweep in 1999 before further expanding to horse racing (in 2008) and motorsport (in 2019).
Singapore Pools needed to modernise its IT environment in order to stay competitive in the gaming industry, and current systems were no longer capable of supporting its growing business needs and meeting service level agreements. Furthermore, their team lacked visibility into their IT infrastructure, making troubleshooting difficult and delaying bet placements.
Singapore Pools decided to replace their legacy systems with OCI and implement new processes to streamline operations, ultimately cutting IT costs while being proactive about handling outages or performance degradations with OCI’s comprehensive monitoring and reporting tools. This move allowed Singapore Pools to reduce IT expenses as well as become proactive about monitoring outages or performance degradations more quickly using OCI.
OCI allows Singapore Pools’ IT team to quickly identify issues and address them promptly to keep bet placement running smoothly. Furthermore, OCI’s unified dashboard gives them full visibility into their IT environment, helping them understand how various modules and applications interact so they can identify and fix problems faster.
OCI has worked to make its organization an engaging workplace for its employees, offering self-service portals that make accessing personal information and benefits on-the-go easy, as well as managing work-life balance more easily. Furthermore, the company provides various training and development opportunities such as its recently introduced digital skills development programme that equips workers with all of the essential digital skills they need to thrive in future workplace environments.
The company demonstrates its dedication to community through programs such as its volunteer programmes and initiatives such as the iShine cloud, which provides volunteers with instantaneous volunteering opportunities. Furthermore, during iShine Day on 15 May they closed all branches so staff could participate in various community events – this marked the first time ever that all branches had been closed by this extent!
